Currachs
This recent series was inspired by Malcolm’s three-week visit to the coast of Ireland in 2015. From his house perched above the vast ocean, he observed a small boat with two fishermen, their vulnerability stark against the endless expanse of sea. This poignant metaphor of fragility and resilience led him to begin rendering boats, focusing specifically on the Irish currach. The currach, with its distinct shape and historical significance, became a vessel through which Malcolm explored themes of survival, connection, and humanity's place within the natural world.
